Students Explore Biodiversity in La Florida Nature Reserve

In a significant educational initiative, eighty students from the Experimental School No. 5 'Modelo San Luis' recently embarked on a journey through the La Florida Nature Reserve, guided by park rangers and accompanied by their teachers. This experience provided the students with their first hands-on exposure to the rich flora and fauna of the area.

During their visit, students learned about native plant species such as algarrobos, caldenes, and espinillos, as well as wildlife including vizcachas and foxes. They were educated on the history of the reserve, its creation, and the vital role of conservation under the Protected Natural Areas Law.

Key environmental issues were discussed, including the dangers of pet ownership, the differences between native and exotic species, and wildfire prevention. Activities led by biodiversity experts allowed students to engage in discussions about renewable and non-renewable resources, emphasizing the importance of conserving natural habitats.

Participants from the Linnevios promotion shared their experiences, highlighting the enriching nature of the trip, which not only fostered a connection with nature but also encouraged teamwork and camaraderie among students and teachers.

The La Florida Nature Reserve is open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with free admission. Visitors are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen, sturdy footwear, and snacks for a safe and enjoyable experience.
