Rare Nintendo GameCube Prototype Listed for $100K on eBay

A rare Nintendo GameCube prototype, one of the few remaining 'announcement models' from the Space World 2000 premiere, has been listed on eBay with a staggering price tag of $100,000. Seller Donny Fillerup claims this non-operational unit is a significant piece of gaming history, but many collectors question its value.

The GameCube prototype, which Fillerup acquired in 2023, was showcased during the iconic Japanese video game trade show. However, the listing notes that the unit is not functional and shows signs of wear. Additionally, it lacks the rare announcement-day controllers that typically accompany such models.

Despite its historical significance, the $100,000 asking price seems excessive, especially considering that functional early production GameCubes typically sell for around $2,000. Fillerup justifies the high price as a means to fund a future gaming business aimed at creating a community space for families and gamers.

As of now, the listing has attracted attention but no buyers, leading some to speculate that it may serve more as a crowdfunding effort than a serious auction. In the meantime, those looking for more contemporary gaming experiences can look forward to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, expected to retail at a more accessible $400.
