The Tourist Eastern Express, which has been operating since May 29, 2019, offers just that. Covering a scenic 1,360 kilometers from Ankara to Kars in approximately 26 hours, this train is a time machine that connects travelers with the ancient heritage and natural beauty of Anatolia.

As it traverses through breathtaking terrains, the Tourist Eastern Express has gained immense popularity, particularly among young adventurers, nature enthusiasts, and photographers. Since its inception, it has welcomed over 71,000 passengers, and the new season promises 60 trips, catering to around 10,500 travel lovers. With stops that include Erzincan, Erzurum, and Sivas, the journey is not just about the destination but the extraordinary sights along the way.

Erzurum, a key stop on the route, is set to become the tourism capital in 2025, as recognized by the Economic Cooperation Organization. This city will host two significant events, enhancing its appeal for tourists traveling on the Eastern Express. With a scheduled four-hour stop in Erzurum, passengers will have the unique opportunity to participate in local activities, making their trip even more memorable.

In response to the growing interest, additional tourist trains have been launched, including the Tourist Diyarbakır Express, which connects Ankara and Diyarbakır with eight scheduled trips. Travelers can enjoy extended stops in Malatya and Elazığ, enhancing their journey through Turkey’s diverse regions.

Moreover, the Turkish rail system is evolving, with plans to expand the network significantly by 2028, increasing its length to over 17,000 kilometers. This development not only enhances domestic travel but also connects Turkey to Europe, ensuring a comfortable and economical travel experience.

As Minister Uraloğlu noted, “We have opened a new chapter in tourism with our trains, attracting visitors from around the world and strengthening cultural exchange.” The Tourist Eastern Express is more than just a train; it is a gateway to discovering the wonders of Turkey.
