Doggie Shorts Film Festival Celebrates Canine Companionship and Raises Funds for Service Dogs

The Doggie Shorts Film Festival is back for its seventh year, celebrating the special bond between humans and dogs. Organized by Kathy Alexander and Paul Lindsey, the festival will take place on Saturday, October 19, at the Leo Rich Theater in Tucson, Arizona.

The festival showcases a series of short films that highlight the important role dogs play in our lives. From heartwarming stories to comedic takes, the event promises a variety of films that dog lovers will enjoy. Notably, the festival aims to raise funds for Ability Dogs of Arizona, a program that trains service dogs for individuals with disabilities.

One of the highlights this year is a comedy titled "The Golden Retriever Bachelor." This charming film follows a senior golden retriever as he searches for the perfect owner. Alexander, who directed the film, expressed her excitement about its light-hearted nature, saying, "I think it's pretty hilarious. We had fun making the film."

The festival will also feature a silent auction, raffle, and wine pull, all designed to support the service dog training program. The cost of training a service dog can range from $20,000 to $30,000, but Ability Dogs of Arizona aims to provide these valuable companions at a fraction of the cost or even for free.

Service dogs can assist individuals in many ways, from detecting changes in blood sugar for diabetics to helping those with PTSD. They are truly remarkable animals that change lives. The Doggie Shorts Film Festival not only entertains but also plays a crucial role in making these life-changing service dogs accessible to those in need.
