Samsung and LG Unveil New AI-Enhanced PCs Amid Competitive Market

On January 1, 2025, Samsung Electronics announced the launch of its new 'Galaxy Book5 Pro' featuring advanced AI capabilities powered by Intel's Ultra Core processor series. The device incorporates an 'AI Select' function that allows users to perform tasks by drawing or dragging on the touchscreen, marking a significant enhancement in user interaction.

The Galaxy Book5 Pro is priced lower than its predecessor, with reductions of up to 182,000 KRW, aiming to make the technology more accessible amidst high exchange rates. It will be available in two models: a 16-inch and a 14-inch version, with prices ranging from 1,768,000 to 2,808,000 KRW.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics is set to reveal its 2025 LG Gram lineup at CES 2025 in Las Vegas on January 7. The new models will feature Intel's Arrow Lake and Luna Lake processors, promising three times the AI processing power compared to previous generations. This will enable real-time translation subtitles and AI image generation.

LG's 'Gram Chat On-Device' will perform AI computations locally, relying on the user's PC usage history, while 'Gram Chat Cloud' will offer cloud-based AI functionalities. Customers purchasing the 2025 LG Gram will receive a year of free access to the GPT-4o powered cloud service.

The lightweight design of the LG Gram remains a key selling point, with the 16-inch model weighing 1199g and the 17-inch model at 1369g, making them lighter than most competitors. Pricing for the LG Gram Pro models ranges from 2,430,000 to 3,340,000 KRW, while the standard LG Gram models are priced between 2,140,000 and 2,290,000 KRW.
