China and Hungary Collaborate on Forestry Research and Climate Change Solutions

On October 28, 2024, a significant collaboration agreement was signed between Hungary's Sopron University and China's Beijing Forestry University in Beijing. This partnership aims to develop effective and sustainable forestry management strategies by combining the expertise and resources of both institutions.

The Beijing Forestry University (BFU), which collaborates with over 150 universities and research institutes from more than 20 countries, has now welcomed Sopron University and its Institute of Forestry Sciences into its global network. This cooperation is intended to create value not only for local communities but also for the global scientific community, addressing future ecological challenges.

Sopron University's leadership emphasized the crucial role of forests in mitigating CO2 emissions and the necessity for modern technological approaches to forestry. Key research areas include climate modeling, geoinformatics, carbon footprint assessment, and biomonitoring systems, where both institutions aim to achieve significant advancements in the scientific field.

Future projects may involve joint efforts in developing and applying information systems necessary for forestry data management, analysis, and decision-making. The unique research topics of Sopron University's Faculty of Forestry Engineering align well with those of China's leading state research university, fostering potential innovations in forestry and wood industry sectors.

Further discussions regarding this collaboration are planned for next year during an international symposium in Sopron.
