Germany Considers Troop Deployment to Ukraine; Zelenskyy Seeks Security Guarantees; NATO-Ukraine Analysis Center Opens in Poland

Berlin views the discussion of deploying peacekeeping forces to Ukraine as "premature," according to Deputy Official Representative of the German government, Christiane Hoffmann, on Monday, February 17. Hoffmann stated that it is necessary to wait and see "whether and in what form peace for Ukraine will come," before discussing conditions and possible measures.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Monday, February 17, that security guarantees for Ukraine should include economic and political components, not just military ones. He made these remarks during a video conference with media representatives during a visit to the United Arab Emirates.

A joint NATO-Ukraine analysis center opened on Monday, February 17, at a NATO base in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The center, officially named the Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC), will allow Ukraine and the alliance to jointly study the experience gained during Russian aggression and draw conclusions. According to NATO's press service, JATEC is the first joint initiative between the alliance and a non-member country.
