A magnitude 6.3 earthquake occurred on January 5, 2025, in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of El Salvador, affecting neighboring Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The quake struck at 11:18 AM local time (17:18 GMT) and was centered 29 kilometers southwest of Costa del Sol, with a depth of 33 kilometers.

Initial reports from authorities indicated no immediate casualties or significant damage. The earthquake generated at least 27 aftershocks, with magnitudes ranging from 3.8 to 4.8, of which 11 were felt by residents.
