Iran Commits to UN Nuclear Inspections Amidst Heightened Uranium Enrichment Activities

On December 14, 2024, Iran's Atomic Energy Organization announced that it will not obstruct the United Nations nuclear watchdog's access to its facilities. This statement comes as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported an increase in uranium enrichment activities at Iran's Fordow site.

The IAEA indicated that Iran has accelerated its uranium enrichment to nearly weapons-grade levels, reaching up to 60% purity. The Iranian authorities have agreed to enhanced monitoring measures by the IAEA following these developments.

Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization, emphasized that Iran operates within the framework of international safeguards and that the agency's inspections will proceed without impediment. He stated, 'We have not created and will not create any obstacles for the agency's inspections and access.'
