Cologne Explosion Linked to Drug Violence, Suspects Identified

Cologne, Germany, September 25, 2024 - An explosion at a cafe in Cologne has raised concerns about a possible surge in drug-related violence in the city. The blast occurred shortly before 3 a.m. local time in the Pesch district, causing significant damage and prompting the evacuation of around 20 residents. Two individuals were treated for smoke inhalation.

Authorities reported that one suspect has turned himself in, while a second suspect remains at large. Initial investigations suggest that this incident may not be directly connected to a series of recent explosions linked to rival gangs in the area.

Cologne police have stated that the violence appears to stem from unresolved disputes within the drug trade, with the head of the criminal investigation department describing the situation as 'unprecedented.'
