Chinese Astronauts Complete Second Spacewalk, Enhancing Space Station Operations

Astronauts Cai Xuzhe, Song Lingdong, and Wang Haoze successfully completed their second extravehicular activity (EVA) on January 22, 2025, dedicating 8.5 hours to critical tasks including the installation of protective devices against space debris and a thorough inspection of the space station's exterior. Their operations were aided by the station's robotic arm and mission control on Earth.

Cai and Song undertook the primary responsibilities of the spacewalk and have safely returned to the Wentian laboratory module. This EVA follows their initial successful spacewalk on December 17, 2024, which laid the groundwork for ongoing maintenance and upgrades to the station.

Throughout their mission, the crew has engaged in vital activities such as inspecting and maintaining space station equipment, conducting system-wide pressure emergency drills, and preparing for the latest EVA. With nearly half of their scheduled mission completed, they are poised to conduct numerous scientific experiments and technological tests in the upcoming weeks. Additionally, the crew is preparing to celebrate the Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year, while in space.
