Starlink, Elon Musk's satellite internet company, is set to establish a new relay station in Chivilcoy, Argentina, marking its fifth location in the country. This move aims to enhance high-power connectivity in the region, consolidating Starlink's presence in South America.

The installation was approved by the Consortium of Owners of the Industrial Park, which has allocated land for the satellite communication antennas. With this addition, Starlink's network now includes stations in Buenos Aires, Río Negro, and Salta.

The choice of Chivilcoy was based on a comprehensive safety and feasibility study, as the antennas require significant energy supply and investment. The project is expected to provide a steady income for the local community, facilitating infrastructure development, while also offering strategic opportunities for industrial growth.

Despite the positive implications for connectivity, job creation will be limited, as the station will be managed remotely. Local residents have expressed concerns and requested detailed information about the project, including environmental impact studies and municipal involvement.

Luciano Giacomini, President of the Industrial Park Council, noted that discussions with Starlink began in 2024, highlighting the project's potential significance for the region's technological landscape.
