IBM has launched a free online education platform called SkillsBuild, offering over 1,000 courses in AI, cybersecurity, data analysis, and cloud computing. The initiative, aimed at adult learners, high school and university students, focuses on educating underrepresented communities in technology, including women and low-income individuals.
In November 2023, IBM introduced new sustainability skills courses under SkillsBuild. The platform provides AI-powered recommendations to learners and connects interdisciplinary topics like ecology and biodiversity with AI and data analytics training.
Courses range from introductory lessons on the relationship between sustainability and technology to advanced applications of skills in areas such as cybersecurity and ESG reporting. IBM's chief impact officer, Justina Nixon-Saintil, noted a growing demand for this type of training.
