Mapúa University Launches AI-Enhanced Medical Program

Mapúa University, in partnership with Arizona State University, launched its innovative medical program on November 7, 2024, at its Makati campus. This program aims to address critical healthcare needs through advanced technology.

The School of Medicine will integrate telemedicine, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and robotics into its curriculum, equipping students with essential skills for a rapidly evolving medical landscape.

Dr. Malaya Santos, Dean of the School of Medicine, emphasized the program's focus on personalized learning through AI-driven technology, allowing students to tailor their education to individual interests.

The curriculum, known as DISCOVER, promotes diversity, inclusion, and equity, while preparing students with digital tools like telemedicine platforms and virtual anatomy models.

Mapúa's approach includes interprofessional education, enabling medical students to collaborate with peers from nursing, psychology, and pharmacy, enhancing their readiness for clinical settings.

Despite its high-tech focus, the program maintains a strong emphasis on fundamental clinical skills, ensuring that students learn to diagnose and treat effectively.

Mapúa aims to inspire graduates to serve in underserved communities, addressing the need for primary care doctors. The university is now accepting applications for its inaugural academic year, starting this December.
