On December 17, 2024, a G1-class magnetic storm affected Earth, according to Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center. The storm began at 8:21 AM Moscow time and is expected to be short-lived.

Forecasts indicate that the storm's intensity will remain at a low level. Earlier in the week, astronomers had predicted magnetic storms for this period. Reports suggested that the geomagnetic field would be stable until noon, after which it would experience disturbances for several hours, calming down again by 6 PM.

Experts from the Helio-Geophysical Service of the Institute of Applied Geophysics noted that on December 14, the Sun experienced 16 C-class flares.
