Abnormal Cold Snap Hits Delhi, Nov 28, 2024

On November 28, 2024, New Delhi experienced a significant drop in temperature, marking the coldest night of the season with a recorded minimum of 10.1 degrees Celsius. This temperature is typical for this time of year, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Previously, the second coldest night occurred on November 21, with temperatures falling to 10.2 degrees Celsius, while the third coldest was noted on November 27 at 10.4 degrees Celsius.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported that the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 325 by 4 PM, an increase from 303 recorded the previous day. No monitoring station reported 'severe' air quality levels, unlike the peak AQI of 419 on November 20.

Between September 15 and November 28, Punjab recorded 10,855 incidents of stubble burning, with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh reporting 1,380 and 5,554 incidents, respectively. On November 28 alone, 34 incidents were noted in Punjab, seven in Haryana, and 103 in Uttar Pradesh.

The IMD forecasts a maximum temperature of around 26 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 10 degrees Celsius for the following day, with daytime humidity levels ranging from 97% to 53%.
