Arkansas Rejects Crypto Mining Ban

On January 31, 2025, the Arkansas Senate's city, county, and local affairs committee voted 5 to 1 to reject a bill aimed at banning crypto mining facilities within a 30-mile radius of military installations. The bill cited national security risks associated with digital asset mining, particularly near US military facilities.

Concerns over noise pollution and environmental impact have been prevalent in similar legislative efforts across the United States. In April 2022, 23 US lawmakers expressed worries to the Environmental Protection Agency regarding the compliance of mining operations with environmental regulations.

In a related incident, former President Joe Biden ordered the closure of a mining facility near a military base in Wyoming in May 2024, citing potential surveillance risks. Additionally, in October 2024, residents in Granbury, Texas, filed a lawsuit against a local mining operation, claiming excessive noise led to various health issues.
