Meta's Ray-Ban Glasses Surpass 1 Million Sales, CEO Sets Ambitious Growth Targets

Meta's Ray-Ban Meta glasses have surpassed 1 million units sold, marking a significant milestone for the company’s smart eyewear initiative. This achievement represents a substantial increase from the previous generation, Ray-Ban Stories, which sold less than 300,000 units over 16 months.

During an internal meeting, CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlined ambitious growth targets, indicating that sales could potentially double or quintuple in the coming years. He stressed the importance of leveraging the current market advantage before competitors like Samsung and Apple enter the market.

To boost sales, Meta plans an aggressive marketing strategy, including a Super Bowl ad campaign featuring celebrities Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth. Additionally, the company aims to launch Oakley Meta glasses later this year in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica and is developing advanced smart glasses with a heads-up display (HUD) priced around $1000.

Meta's CFO, Susan Li, acknowledged that these initiatives will significantly increase costs for the Reality Labs division but emphasized the necessity of establishing a strong presence in the smart glasses market. The success of Ray-Ban Meta glasses will be pivotal in assessing the market appeal of displayless camera glasses and the potential need for advanced augmented reality features.
