Australia's Military Support to Ukraine: Delivery of M1A1 Abrams Tanks

Australia has commenced the delivery of 49 retired M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a military assistance package valued at approximately AU$245 million. This initiative aims to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities amid ongoing conflicts. The tanks, which have been decommissioned from the Australian Army, are being replaced by newer M1A2 models. The transfer of these tanks to Ukraine has been coordinated with the United States, the original manufacturer, to ensure compliance with international regulations. This contribution is part of Australia's broader commitment to supporting Ukraine, which includes over AU$1.3 billion in military aid since the onset of the conflict in 2022.
