Malaysia has launched the Madani Smart Water campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at safeguarding the country's water resources. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof announced the campaign, emphasizing its role in raising awareness and promoting a cultural shift towards water conservation across all segments of society.
The campaign is built on four key pillars: sustainability, preservation, advocacy, and nurture. It encompasses education, stakeholder engagement, and a holistic shift in public behavior. The goal is to empower individuals as agents of change, making water conservation a shared responsibility.
The Madani Smart Water campaign seeks to bridge national policy and behavioral change for smarter water management. Malaysia faces challenges like river pollution, unregulated development, and rising water demand. Climate change also poses a threat, contributing to erratic weather patterns and disruptions to raw water sources.
Petra is enhancing enforcement against water pollution, amending the Water Services Industry Act 2006, and expanding monitoring systems. Various education initiatives and public awareness campaigns will also be rolled out. The campaign aims to ensure the nation's water sustainability amid growing challenges.
