While Iceland's slogan for May 1st is "Create Suitable Jobs", the question remains: what does that mean? It means creating diverse jobs to meet the needs of individuals with various disabilities, skills, and experiences. This includes people with different education levels, from primary school to multiple university degrees. It's not enough to offer only low-wage jobs, as this doesn't incentivize employment. Part-time positions are scarce, and often require 50-80% work, suitable for those with 'partial disability' under the new social security system. But what about those who can only work less than 50%? What options are available for them? The government needs to set a good example by offering suitable part-time jobs to people with disabilities. More accessibility to various activities is also needed, especially for those with full disability status. The author challenges the government to lead by example in creating part-time jobs for people with disabilities.
