The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the UK government are co-hosting the International Summit on the Future of Energy Security in London on April 24 and 25, 2025. The summit addresses geopolitical, technological, and economic factors impacting energy security.
Key discussion areas include shifts in fuel demand, the increasing role of electricity, the expansion of clean energy technologies, and the supply of critical minerals. The summit aims to provide a platform for leaders to discuss tools for managing both traditional and emerging energy security risks. UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband and IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol are co-hosting the event.
Fatih Birol emphasized that oil and gas remain essential in the energy mix, while also acknowledging the growing importance of clean energy technologies. The summit brings together over 60 high-level leaders, including representatives from various countries and energy company executives. China is notably absent due to scheduling conflicts and infrastructure project disputes with the UK.
