Us-china Trade Talks: Beijing Demands Tariff Removal for Negotiations

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

The trade war between the US and China continues to escalate. Beijing insists that Washington must first completely remove all unilateral tariffs. This is a precondition for any trade negotiations to resume. Chinese officials have stated there are currently "no economic and trade negotiations" with the United States. This contradicts President Trump's claims of ongoing talks. China's commerce ministry spokesperson, He Yadong, emphasized that the US initiated the tariffs and must take the first step towards de-escalation. Trump has indicated a willingness to reduce tariffs, but only if China takes reciprocal action. However, Beijing views the US tariffs as economic bullying and demands a return to equal dialogue. The situation remains tense, with both sides seemingly unwilling to make the first concession, potentially leading to further economic decoupling.
