Italy is set to enhance its food security measures following the introduction of three new offenses aimed at combating food fraud and deceptive trade practices. Justice Minister Carlo Nordio announced the new legislation, designed to protect consumers and ensure the integrity of Italian food products. The laws target fraudulent activities, including the trade of foods with misleading labels and 'agropiracy,' which involves organized and sustained fraudulent operations. To enforce these laws, authorities will be granted expanded powers, including the ability to conduct telephone interceptions and undercover operations. This initiative underscores Italy's commitment to safeguarding the interests of consumers and maintaining the quality of its food industry.
