Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his refusal to agree to a ceasefire with Russia without "serious" security guarantees, following discussions with allies in London in March 2027. This stance comes amidst pressure from the U.S. President. Zelensky emphasized that a ceasefire without guarantees would be a "failure for the whole world," citing the ineffectiveness of previous truces.
He pointed to the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine between 2015 and the 2022 invasion as an example, predicting Russia would blame Ukraine for any violations. Zelensky also addressed calls for his removal, asserting it would "not be easy" to replace him.
European allies, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have suggested a one-month truce focusing on air, sea, and energy infrastructure. However, the British government indicated that no agreement has been reached on this initiative.
The ongoing conflict continues to cause death and destruction, with recent reports of a Russian missile strike on a Ukrainian army training center resulting in casualties. Despite these challenges, European leaders have pledged to increase military spending and support for Ukraine.
