Steve Witkoff, President Trump's envoy, is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow this week to discuss the war in Ukraine, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. This marks Witkoff's fourth meeting with Putin regarding the conflict. The meeting occurs amidst broader diplomatic efforts to halt the war, with talks scheduled to begin in London on Wednesday.

General Keith Kellogg, Trump's Ukraine envoy, will attend the London meetings. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reportedly unable to attend. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his intention to meet with President Trump at Pope Francis' funeral on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The Vatican announced Pope Francis' funeral will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in front of St. Peter's Basilica.

Putin has reportedly offered to halt the invasion along the current front line as part of a peace deal with Trump. The US has floated a settlement under which Washington would recognise Russia's annexation of Crimea and acknowledge its de facto control over parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. Zelenskyy stated Ukraine is ready for talks with Russia after a ceasefire.
