US airstrikes targeting Ras Isa oil port in Yemen's Al Hudaydah province resulted in at least 22 fatalities. The Houthi group's Al-Masirah TV channel reported the casualties, which included five health workers. The strikes occurred on Thursday.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that it destroyed the fuel port. The operation aimed to eliminate a fuel source for the Houthis and deprive them of illegal revenue. CENTCOM asserted this revenue has funded Houthi efforts to destabilize the region for over a decade.
Civil defense and rescue teams are working to extinguish the fire at the port. They are also rescuing the wounded following the attack. The Houthis have targeted ships in the Red Sea and surrounding areas since November 2023, citing solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
