Trump Team Hints at Starlink Cutoff Over Ukraine Mineral Rights
Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович
Negotiations between the U.S. and Ukraine regarding access to Ukraine's mineral resources have reportedly involved discussions about the future of Starlink services in the country. Sources indicate that U.S. officials suggested that continued access to SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet, vital for Ukraine's connectivity and military operations, could be contingent on an agreement concerning key mineral rights. This comes after President Zelenskyy rejected an initial U.S. offer for a 50% stake in Ukraine's mineral wealth, including graphite, uranium, titanium, and lithium. The discussions occurred during meetings involving U.S. Special Envoy Keith Kellogg and President Zelenskyy. The potential disruption of Starlink services has raised concerns, given its critical role in Ukrainian military communications and drone operations. Musk has previously supported Ukraine by providing Starlink terminals following Russia's invasion in February 2022. However, disagreements have surfaced, with Trump recently referring to Zelenskyy as an "unelected dictator."
