Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

The NATO summit, held in The Hague, Netherlands, on June 24-25, 2025, centered on Ukraine's security and member states' defense spending commitments. The meeting brought together heads of state and top officials to address critical issues related to European security.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the summit, highlighting NATO's commitment to Ukraine. The alliance has provided substantial military assistance, with approximately €40 billion annually. A key discussion point was the proposal to increase NATO members' defense spending to 5% of GDP, advocated by figures like U.S. President Donald Trump.

While the majority supported the increase, some nations, such as Spain, opposed the target, citing potential harm to economic growth. European nations, including the United Kingdom and France, have also initiated a "coalition of the willing" to provide enhanced support to Ukraine. The summit underscored NATO's commitment to collective defense and support for Ukraine amidst ongoing regional tensions.
