Bosnia and Herzegovina Seeks US Trade Talks

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

On June 5th, Denis Bećirović, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), initiated a proposal for bilateral economic and trade consultations with the United States of America.

The proposal includes the potential for a "Government-to-Government" agreement. This initiative aims to strengthen economic ties and ensure the country's competitiveness in the American market.

Bećirović highlighted the importance of a long-term partnership with the US for BiH's political stability, economic growth, and foreign policy orientation. He emphasized the need for proactive measures due to changes in global trade policies.

The proposal suggests a more flexible approach through a G2G arrangement, given the complexities of a free trade agreement. It includes removing non-tariff barriers, strengthening institutional cooperation, and improving investment mechanisms.

Bećirović stressed that any actions must align with international obligations, particularly the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union. He warned against moves that could harm trade relations, including those with the EU.

This initiative reflects a strategic approach to strengthen BiH's international position, economic sovereignty, and proactive action in the interests of its citizens.
