Ukraine's Air Force Command reported that its air defenses successfully shot down 40 cruise missiles during recent intensified attacks by Russia. Additionally, they stated that 74 Russian cruise missiles failed to reach their intended targets due to electronic countermeasures.
Strikes were recorded across several regions, including eastern, northern, and central parts of the country. Ihor Taburets, head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that Russian missile strikes damaged a gas supply facility in central Ukraine, leading to a gas leak that affected gas supply to parts of the city and surrounding areas. According to Taburets, the Cherkasy region faced one of the most massive attacks, with Ukrainian Air Defense Forces reportedly shooting down 15 Russian missiles over the region.
Amidst these attacks, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that U.S. President Donald Trump expressed interest in brokering a deal to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump believes he can negotiate a peace agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, potentially leading to a resolution through negotiations. Putin has offered a 72-hour ceasefire from May 8 to May 10, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II, provided current front lines are recognized.
