Italy Sends Delegation to Washington Amid US Tariff Concerns

Italy has dispatched a delegation to Washington to discuss potential tariffs with US officials, according to Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The delegation is working in coordination with the EU Commission, which holds exclusive competence over trade agreements. Tajani emphasized the importance of strengthening Italy's presence in other markets and engaging in dialogue with the US to safeguard Italian exports. Tajani also mentioned a plan to protect Italian businesses, potentially through increased imports and investments in the US. The plan includes exploring new markets such as Mexico, Indonesia, the Gulf countries, and Japan. EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic stated that the US administration does not appear willing to reach an agreement with the EU to avoid tariffs on steel and aluminum. Sefcovic affirmed the EU's commitment to protecting European businesses and consumers from unjustified tariffs, while also expressing a desire for positive relations with the US.
