UK and France Propose "Europa+" for Russia-Ukraine Peace

Following increased tensions between Washington and Kiev, the UK and France have agreed to propose the formation of a group named "Europa+" to the U.S. This initiative aims to foster a diplomatic effort toward peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. "Europa+" would consist of a coalition, including Canada, focused on participating in peacekeeping operations and providing additional security assurances to Kiev. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the UK, France, and other countries will collaborate with Ukraine on a plan to halt combat, which will then be discussed with the U.S. French President Emmanuel Macron has proposed a joint plan with the British PM for a month-long truce affecting air, sea, and energy infrastructure. Macron clarified that the deployment of European peace troops in Ukraine would occur at a later stage, emphasizing the need for a viable truce first. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has criticized the plan for European peace forces in Ukraine as an incitement against Russia, noting the involvement of countries that previously failed to adhere to the Minsk agreement.
