United Nations Adopts Resolution on Afghanistan's Human Rights Crisis

New York, July 7, 2025 - The United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution ES-11/8, titled "The Path to Peace," addressing human rights violations and security challenges in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime.

The resolution calls for the reversal of oppressive measures against women and girls and urges the elimination of terrorist organizations. It also emphasizes economic recovery and urges international donors to address the humanitarian crisis.

The vote saw 93 countries in favor, with 8 against and 73 abstentions, reflecting complex geopolitical dynamics. The United States and Israel voted against the resolution, while Russia, China, India, and Iran abstained.
