Malaysia And Italy Forge Economic Ties, Announce Investment Deals

Rome, July 1-3, 2025: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim co-chaired the Malaysia-Italy Economic Partnership Roundtable with Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani during a three-day official visit.

The event involved over 100 companies from both countries, focusing on sectors like manufacturing and services. Discussions resulted in potential investments of RM8.13 billion, with a focus on petrochemicals and other key sectors.

The leaders discussed deepening cooperation in trade, investment, defense, renewable energy, and environmental initiatives. Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Italy reached RM14.61 billion (US$3.18 billion) in 2024.

Prime Minister Anwar also met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The visit included discussions on regional and international matters, including the Middle East situation.

Following the Rome visit, Prime Minister Anwar is scheduled to travel to Paris and Rio de Janeiro for the BRICS summit.
