Authorities in Santa Catarina, Brazil, seized over 40 cubic meters of native wood. The seizure occurred in São Joaquim, specifically in the Serra catarinense region. The operation took place on Wednesday.
The Environmental Military Police (PMSC) reported the confiscation. A total of 41.49 cubic meters of wood logs were seized. The illegal logging involved 91 trees of the Araucária angustifolia species.
The Araucária angustifolia, also known as the Brazilian pine, is an endangered species. Approximately five hectares of deforestation were discovered. The individual responsible for the illegal extraction will face administrative and criminal charges.
