Protests Against Dismantling of Japan Science Council

Scholars and citizens in Japan protested the government's plan to dismantle the Science Council of Japan. The protesters formed a human chain in front of the Diet building. They voiced concerns about academic freedom.

The protest was organized by a group opposing the special legal status of the Science Council. Tanaka Yuko, Professor Emeritus and former President of Hosei University, criticized the plan. She stated it undermines the council's opposition to military expansion.

Participants included academics, journalists, and members of various political parties. They expressed strong opposition to the government's interference in academic affairs. Further protests are planned in the coming days.
