A UK government agency has allocated funds to experiment with cooling the Earth. The official agency, named Aria, will dedicate approximately 67 million euros to research solar geo-engineering techniques.
The technique involves injecting particles, such as sulfur or calcite, at an altitude of about 20 kilometers. These particles would block a portion of the sun's rays, effectively cooling the atmosphere.
This initiative aims to mimic the cooling effect observed after large volcanic eruptions. The UK's plan to test this technology in the real world, even on a small scale, has sparked controversy and raises numerous questions about its potential impacts.
