An Australian boat builder has launched the world's largest electric-powered ship. The 130-meter catamaran, named Hull 096, can carry 2,100 passengers.
Built for South American ferry operator Buquebus, the ship is powered by over 250 tonnes of batteries. It will transport passengers and vehicles between Buenos Aires and Uruguay.
The ship's batteries and Energy Storage System provide over 40 megawatt hours of capacity. The ESS is connected to eight electric-driven waterjets.
