The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has allocated $2.28 million to 19 projects across New South Wales in 2025. This investment supports local councils, community groups, and government agencies in their efforts to prevent litter and protect the environment.

The funding aims to help the NSW Government achieve its goal of reducing litter by 60% by 2030. The initiatives focus on raising awareness, changing behaviors, and providing infrastructure for responsible waste disposal.

Key Projects Receiving Funding

Several projects have received grants, including:

  • Camden Council: $70,000 to develop a roadmap for reducing litter in hotspots and waterways, including the appointment of a dedicated Project Officer.

  • Clean Up Australia: $400,000 to establish a pilot program targeting problematic behavior and transitioning the organization from clean-up efforts to litter prevention.

  • Cobar Shire Council: $20,000 to install new cigarette butt bins, signage, and engagement activities to reduce cigarette butt litter at hotspots like Cobar RSL Club and Drummond Park.
