NASA is developing the Quantum Gravity Gradiometer Pathfinder (QGGPf), a suitcase-sized instrument. It will measure how clouds of atoms behave under the influence of gravity.
The QGGPf will use rubidium atoms cooled to just above absolute zero. This will allow it to make measurements from space.
Expected to launch by the end of the decade, QGGPf aims to test the technology in space. It could map our planet with unprecedented detail and change how we explore other worlds.
