The Tirana-Durrës-Rinas airport railway project in Albania is progressing towards its anticipated opening in 2026. The contracted company is prepared to commence construction of new station buildings along the railway line.

The Tirana-Durrës-Rinas railway will feature nine stops, designed to provide modern and comfortable facilities for passengers. The railway line will be fully electric, which is expected to have a significant impact on transportation within the country.

According to a recent INSTAT report, rail transport saw increased passenger usage, with 666 passengers in the fourth quarter of 2024, a 68.6% increase compared to the same period last year. The volume of goods transported via railways also increased by 1.8%, amounting to 133.6 thousand tons in the same quarter.

Parliament has approved an additional loan agreement worth Euro 40.7 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction (EBRD) to fund new project components. These include the construction of eight new buildings, encompassing squares, parking lots, and passenger platform covers, as well as price indexation for basic construction materials and supervision of the building works.
