MONTRÉAL, Nov. 20, 2024 - EVLO Energy Storage Inc. has announced that its modified EVLOFLEX battery energy storage system (BESS) has received UL 9540 certification, meeting the safety specifications of Dominion Energy. This certification underscores the system's reliability and performance across multiple phases including design and operation.
The UL 9540 certification process involves rigorous testing for safety governance, fire prevention, and hazard detection. EVLO's Chief Technology Officer, Michel Cousineau, highlighted the enhancements made to the EVLOFLEX system, including the integration of an external fire panel control to facilitate regulatory approvals.
The EVLOFLEX system is designed to assist utilities in stabilizing grids and optimizing operations. The enhanced version will be deployed in three large-scale BESS projects in Virginia, totaling over 300 MWh, aligning with Dominion's Grid-Transformation Plan and supporting the Virginia Clean Economy Act, which aims for 100% clean energy by 2050.
Commissioning of the Virginia projects is set to begin in 2025 and 2026. The advancements in EVLOFLEX’s safety features will also be applicable for future projects with other clients adhering to stringent safety standards.
