Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Visits Nigeria, Promotes Economic Growth and Innovation

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced his visit to Nigeria on November 17, 2024, marking his first trip to the country as Prime Minister. During his address, Modi expressed goodwill on behalf of the Indian populace, stating, 'I have brought with me the fragrance of Indian soil and many good wishes for all of you.'

Highlighting India's achievements, Modi noted that the nation has innovated significantly, stating, 'A confident India has embarked on a new journey today.' He mentioned that India has over 150,000 registered startups and has seen the emergence of more than 100 unicorns in the past decade, indicating a vibrant startup culture.

Modi emphasized the economic growth of India, claiming that the country added USD 2 trillion to its GDP over the last ten years and is now the fifth largest economy globally. He forecasted that India would soon become a USD 5 trillion economy.

The Prime Minister also discussed India's advancements in the space sector, announcing plans to send Indians to space through the Gaganyaan mission and to establish a space station. He highlighted that 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty in the last decade.

This visit is part of Modi's three-nation tour, at the invitation of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years.
