Iran Implements Strict Flight Security Measures Amid Rising Tensions Following Attacks in Lebanon

On October 12, 2024, Iran announced a ban on pagers and walkie-talkies on all flights as part of heightened security measures. This decision follows a series of deadly sabotage attacks in Lebanon, which are attributed to Israel and targeted members of the Iran-allied Hezbollah group.

The Iranian Civil Aviation Organisation's spokesman, Jafar Yazerlo, stated that the entry of any electronic communication device, except for mobile phones, is now prohibited in flight cabins and in non-accompanied cargo. This measure comes after attacks that resulted in the deaths of at least 39 individuals and left nearly 3,000 others injured, including Tehran's ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani.

In a related move, Dubai-based airline Emirates has also implemented a similar ban on pagers and walkie-talkies aboard its aircraft, reflecting growing concerns over flight security in the region.
