Switzerland Deepens EU Ties

Edited by: S Света

Switzerland is actively strengthening its cooperation with the European Union, while maintaining its neutral status.

In January 2025, Switzerland will join the EU's "Military Mobility" program, aimed at improving the movement of military technology and personnel across borders.

Switzerland's defense minister, Viola Amherd, noted that participation does not affect the country's collective defense obligations and respects its neutrality principles.

In March 2025, the Swiss parliament approved a resolution calling for closer cooperation with the EU in the area of security. The resolution was adopted with 115 votes in favor and 66 against, demonstrating the country's commitment to strengthening security ties with Europe.

Additionally, in October 2024, Switzerland joined the European initiative for the protection of airspace against drones (ESSI). This cooperation aims to establish a unified air defense system in Europe without compromising Switzerland's neutral status, as the country retains the right to independently decide its participation.

Thus, Switzerland continues to strengthen its cooperation with the EU while firmly adhering to its neutral status.
