Sofia, Bulgaria, July 8, 2025 — The European Parliament approved Bulgaria's adoption of the Eurozone, with the currency expected to be introduced on January 1, 2026.
The decision was made after positive assessments by the European Commission and the European Central Bank, which confirmed that Bulgaria meets all the necessary criteria for entry: inflation levels, exchange rate stability, low government debt, and control of the budget deficit.
The vote saw 531 members in favor, 69 against, and 79 abstentions. This became the culmination of years of effort by the country to prepare for integration into the Eurozone.
Following official approval by the EU Council, Bulgaria will become the 21st country to use the euro as its official currency.
