The Kuwait Dive Team's ongoing efforts in 2025 to protect the marine environment have garnered praise from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The team's activities align with the global 'Clean Seas' campaign, aimed at combating marine plastic pollution and preserving marine ecosystems.
Key Initiatives and Achievements
The Kuwait Dive Team, affiliated with the Environmental Voluntary Foundation (EVF), has undertaken numerous missions. These include removing abandoned fishing nets, maintaining marine moorings, and conducting coastal cleanup campaigns. Team leader Waleed Al-Fadhel has emphasized the team's commitment to marine conservation.
Recent activities include the removal of a 200-kilogram abandoned fishing net from coral reefs near Qaruh Island. The team also completed maintenance on marine mooring buoys around Qaruh Island, ensuring safe anchoring for boats and yachts. These efforts help protect coral reefs from damage.
The team's work extends to broader coastal cleanup efforts, with eight tons of marine debris removed from the Ushairij coast in April 2025. This initiative, part of International Mother Earth Day activities, aims to restore the area's natural state. The team's dedication has been recognized with the Energy Globe Foundation Award.
