The UN has reiterated its strong rejection of Israel's plan to control humanitarian aid to Gaza through American private security companies. This statement was made during a press conference on Thursday by Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq. He referred to a briefing presented to Security Council members on Wednesday by Steve Witkoff, the US President's special envoy for the Middle East.
Haq clarified that the UN was not directly informed of this meeting, which was addressed individually to some Security Council members by the US mission. According to media reports, Witkoff presented a new humanitarian aid plan for Gaza, designed by the US and Israel. The plan aims to distribute aid directly to beneficiaries through American private security firms.
Haq emphasized that the UN will not participate in any mechanism that does not respect fundamental humanitarian principles. These principles include humanity, impartiality, independence, and neutrality. The UN's position is that the Israeli proposal seems designed to increase control and limit aid significantly.
