Quercus Angola, also known as Associação Minuto Verde, has requested a temporary suspension of the agreement between Angolan authorities and ReconAfrica. The agreement concerns oil exploration in the Etosha-Okavango Basin.
The environmental organization expressed deep concern over the agreement. They are advocating for a rigorous, independent, and participatory environmental impact study before proceeding.
Rafael Lucas, president of Quercus Angola, emphasized the need for sustainable development. He suggested creating a local monitoring group comprising environmental organizations, civil society, local communities, and environmental authorities.
